How You've Helped the CIA

From creating scholarships to building plazas, our donors have made a world of difference at the World's Premier Culinary College. Meet some of the people and programs who have made a difference in the education of our students and the experience of our guests.

Bill and Pat Anton make the largest personal gift in CIA history

In 2005, The Culinary Institute Of America opened Anton Plaza—with vistas overlooking the majestic Hudson River, at its Hyde Park, NY campus. The plaza was made possible by William and Patricia Anton, leaders in the airport foodservice segment, with a $4.6 million gift, the largest personal gift in the history of CIA.

Anton Plaza provides 32,500 square feet of landscaped terrace with breathtaking views of the river, where banquets and other special events can be held in the open air or under a tent.

Sustaining Students, Sustaining Agriculture

Founder and CEO of Chipotle Mexican Grill and CIA alumnus Steve Ells ’90 has unlocked the secret to a successful, and sustainable, business model with his “Food with Integrity” initiative. From humanely raised beef to hormone-free sour cream, Steve incorporates high-quality ingredients into his menu because, as he says, “they ultimately result in better-tasting food.” The transformation to a more ethical menu occurred gradually as business grew. The effect is not only more flavorful food, but greater customer loyalty and increased sales.

The Dyson Foundation: Generosity with a local flavor

Dyson Foundation  August 2007 – In the true spirit of community, the Dyson Foundation has committed $125,000 toward scholarships for CIA students native to—or who are longtime residents of—the Hudson Valley. Awards from the Millbrook, NY-based foundation can range up to $10,000. This year's recipients include Jennifer Greenwood, Derek Corsino, and Bryan Graham. Jennifer and Bryan recently received their CIA bachelor's degrees in baking and pastry arts management, and Derek, who has already earned his A.O.S. in baking and pastry arts, joins the college's B.P.S. program this fall.
